Routes

120km, 75km and 45km Routes

The best routes in trail running take some time and planning. We are working hard to give you the best possible route for this year's event, which means long discussions with farm owners, conservancies and nature reserves.

In the meantime, please refer to our routes from last year as an indication of what you can expect. The first 30km for the 120km and 75km routes will once again go up and down Mt Rochelle and into the Berg River Valley (see 2021 75km route). Our mission is to make sure we give you the best possible route from Berg River to Stellenbosch, which is our #1 priority project in the Maxi office at the moment and we are in discussion with all the necessary stakeholders to make this happen.

Our 45km will also start into the Bergriver valley and will join the 120km and 75km route sections towards Stellenbosch.

2021 Route Profile

20km, 13km and 7km Routes

Our routes for the 20km and 13km races will follow the same route as 2021.

Both routes will take runners towards the famous 'Hangbrug' and through the Eerste River into Stellenbosch mountain. The longest climb will welcome you from here so that we can get you onto the most scenic trail as soon as possible.

From here runners can experience the Blue Gum-and Pine Tree forests, Fynbos and Farmlands that make up the route through Coetzenburg, Eden and the farms that line the Blaauwklippen road towards Mont Marie farm and back.

The 13km route will turn back at the first Aid Station at Eden Forest, through the University 'Proefplaas', Coetzenburg and Eerste River Trail back towards the start.

Our inaugural 7km route is for young racers and fun runners alike, following the 20km and 13km route until they turn off the Stellenbosch 'bergpad' just before the climb really starts to chew the legs. From here they will follow the route along the University sportsfields towards the Eerste River trail and back to the start. You have the same cutoff time as the 13km runners, so feel free to come and take a comfortable Sunday walk!
