We feel this is the best Sub-100k route in SA! Period.
Last year we were caught off guard by the rain! We won't let it happen this year.
This route was more than 5 years in the making and we'd like to thank Cape Nature for the access this year. (Please note the Assegaaiboschkloof / Bergriver Neck section is a no access area outside of the event!).
45km and 30km Routes
We had to let our old routes go at the last minute!
Our main priorities at MaxiRace are to build our event around the communities we run through and to develop route options that are feasible for us from a logistical and operational point of view.
We recently made the decision in middle July to move our 45k and 30k races to Simonsberg due to the growth possibilities in the area as well our perception of what the best possible route would be.
The new venue offers incredible routes (80%+ trails), scenic vistas towards Table Mountain and the Stellenbosch surrounds and a true 'Cape Winelands' experience, given that runners will traverse more than 6 prestigious wine farms - on trails curated by Meurant Botha from Dirtopia over the past few decades!
For runners who already booked accommodation in Franschhoek anticipating a 45k start at the church - please send us an email here and we will help you get to the new start line free of charge.

Our 45km presents an incredible introduction to entry-level ultra trail runners and a fast race for elites.

This Race was incredibly popular on its launch last year!
This is your stepping stone race from the 20km to the 45km and beyond. The 30km will run in the footprints of the 45k along the slopes of Simonsberg towards Stellenbosch and is a fast and runnable route.

The toughest of our races in terms of elevation to distance!
The good news is that it's not a technical route and all climbs are undulating switchback trails or jeep track, so no steps or rocky inclines!

RACE START: 4pm | 3 hour Cutoff | START & FINISH @ LAERSKOOL STELLENBOSCH
What's new? We've dropped a couple of km's (and dropped the 7k) to encourage runners to up from their 2023 Maxi targets and round off our races...
This will also be a Sunset Run this year so you can look forward to seeing the lights come on in town while on the route and finish to a buzzing night time Race Village!

It's FUN! It's FREE! It's 'WHEEL FRIENDLY'! Designed for the whole family! If you're a Park Runner then this one's for you... Bring your prams, balance bikes and dogs on a leash. Your only entry fee is a donation to the Stellenbosch Trail Fund!
